Researcher Bioinformatics
Agro business park 10, Wageningen
What does your job as Researcher Bioinformatics at GenNovation entail?
The application of DNA markers in ornamental breeding programs is still in its infancy, and research infrastructures like genome reference assemblies are still scarce. As researcher bioinformatics, you will be involved in an interdisciplinary team that develops approaches to obtain (haplotype-based) markers in ornamental crops, which are often challenging due to their genome size and/or ploidy. You will devise workflows / bioinformatics pipelines to analyze data, develop molecular markers from sequencing data and report to the bioinformatics lead.
We are looking for a colleague with a getting-things-done mentality. You can work methodological at multiple tasks at the same time. You have a broad interest and willing to learn the fundamentals of plant breeding and marker development. By organizing and visualizing data, you contribute to strategies for the development of better varieties.
About you
- MSc or BSc in bioinformatics, computational biology or related field.
- Minimal three years’ experience in the plant/food sector
- Experience with large scale sequence data analysis.
- Excellent programming skills, preferably in Python.
- Experienced Linux environment and command line user.
- Analytical skills, a good communicator and a team player.
- Experience with working in a cloud environment is a plus.
- Experience with Pangenomes is a plus.
